The Game of Rassilon Wiki

The War Doctor is the ninth incarnation of the Time Lord known as the Doctor. This incarnation primarily fought in the Time War, having been regenerated from his previous incarnation for this specific purpose.

Within The Game of Rassilon, the War Doctor was the first to learn of the divide between the Sisterhood of Karn and the Time Lords, beginning a trail which leads up to the events at the beginning of the podcast.

Within the Game of Rassilon[]

After the Sisterhood of Karn aided the Eighth Doctor into regenerating into an incarnation better suited for war, this new Doctor learned a great secret at the heart of the relationship between the Sisterhood and the Time Lords - the Sisterhood originated on Gallifrey, and left as a result of "something to do with the Matrix. Something that the Sisterhood knew couldn’t be fixed."

The War Doctor wrote in his diary hoping that, if he survived the war, he might be able to set right "The schism in our people." (Perfection)

Behind the Scenes[]

The War Doctor is voiced by Ben Paddon. He is the only incarnation of the Doctor that appears in this episode not to be voiced by a special guest.

By their own admission, Paddon got the courage to use their impression of John Hurt in the podcast after using it to voice Lorem the Wise, an NPC they voice in the YouTube D&D series Hot Quest. Notably, Hot Quest also features Elisa Melendez and Mikey Neumann, who would voice two other incarnations of the Doctor in Perfection.

Big Finish would later launch an audio series, The War Doctor Begins, starring Jonathon Carley as the War Doctor. The first set in this range takes place moments after the Eighth Doctor's regeneration into the War Doctor.
